The Role of the National Museum in Riyadh in teaching Art Education to Middle School Students

Abstract

The study aims to explore the role of the National Museum in Riyadh in teaching art education to middle school students and to determine its effectiveness in enhancing their artistic skills. The research adopted the experimental method as it is the most suitable for studying the impact of the museum on art education. The research sample included 20 students from Riyadh schools and 5 teachers, reflecting a diversity of cultural and social backgrounds among the students. A comprehensive questionnaire was designed to collect data from students and teachers, and the results showed that the Pearson correlation coefficients between the questionnaire items and the total score were statistically significant at the 0.01 significance level, indicating the validity of the questionnaire. The results also showed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test applications, with the T-value (T) being 61.405 at the 0.01 significance level. The average student scores in the pre-test were 49.381 with a standard deviation of 5.204, while the average scores in the post-test were 203.530 with a standard deviation of 12.468. The average teacher scores in the pre-test were 5.050 with a standard deviation of 1.271, while the average in the post-test was 34.278 with a standard deviation of 3.296. The results indicate a significant improvement in student scores after visiting the National Museum in Riyadh, reflecting a clear positive impact of the museum visit on students' performance in art education. Based on these results, it is recommended to enhance the use of the National Museum as part of the curriculum for teaching art education. This can be achieved by organizing regular visits to the museum, where students can interact directly with artworks, enhancing their ability to analyze and interpret art. Additionally, joint educational programs between schools and the museum can be developed to enhance educational benefits. Further studies are also suggested to identify the specific factors contributing to this significant improvement.Top of Form
